Ligny 1815 Museum
The Ligny 1815 Museum takes visitors on an interactive and immersive tour to find out more about the Napoleonic Wars and, more specifically, the 1815 campaign in Belgium.
With a rich collection of period objects and an attractive scenography, it retraces the daily life of the soldiers plunged into the hell of the battle of 16 June 1815 at Ligny and evokes the fate and resilience of the village community.
In Ligny, a man fell every second of the day
In Ligny, a peaceful village of 900 inhabitants, on 16 June 1815, two armies faced each other: Blücher's Prussian army, with its 87,000 men and 216 cannons, and Napoleon's French army, with its 65,000 men and 240 cannons.
For six hours, fierce fighting took place in the streets, gardens and houses of the village. By the end of the day, Ligny was in flames and thousands of corpses littered the battlefield.

2015 is the bicentenary of the battle! On Friday 16 June 1815 a small village in the province of Namur had its name written into the history books in letters of fire and blood.
For more than 6 hours, 150,000 men fought like men possessed and destroyed the fruits of the labour of a whole population. This little village was Ligny, which relives the event every year with a historical re-enactment of the bivouacs and battle.
The re-enactment brings together hundreds of re-enactors. On the schedule: a remembrance ceremony and a little tourist train.
All weekend at the Général Gérard Centre:
Not forgetting the marquee, refreshment area and food and drinks which are available on site. General entrance and access to the site: €5 (all activities included). Free for those in period costume and the under-14s.

- Show/concert by the batterie des Grognards from Upper Alsace,
