Information

The Arlon Archaeological Museum brings together a wealth of Gallo-Roman artefacts discovered in the province of Luxembourg.

The town of Arlon, located at the crossroads of two major Roman roads, enjoyed great prosperity in the early centuries of our era, thanks to trade reaching as far as the Mediterranean. Located on the former territory of the Trevirian city, the town was known as Orolaunum vicus.

One of the museum's special features is its rich lapidary collection, comprising dozens of fragments of funerary monuments. Their remarkable preservation is due to the fact that they were incorporated into the foundations of the rampart built at the end of the ancient period.

The museum also boasts a rich collection of ceramics, glass and bronze, as well as many everyday objects used by our Gallo-Roman ancestors. Recent archaeological excavations at Arlon and at the Gallo-Roman villa at Mageroy are also on display.

The museum occasionally hosts temporary exhibitions on archaeological, historical or artistic subjects.
