By car:

From Brussels: about 2 hours 30 minutes via the E411 (exit Neufchâteau), then follow the N88 towards Florenville.

From Luxembourg: about 1 hour via the N81.

From Arlon: about 1 hour via the N83 and N881.
A large free car park is available at the entrance to the site, close to the ticket office and the shop.

By public transport:

Train: the nearest station is Florenville, located 8 km from the abbey.

Bus: TEC line 163b connects Florenville and Virton, with a stop near Orval (Orval Abbey stop).

Discover the Abbey of Orval through the Centuries

The Abbey of Orval, nestled in a peaceful valley, is a Cistercian site steeped in millennia of history. The legendary Mathilde Fountain springs forth here, surrounded by the remnants of a place of reflection and monastic work. This place of serenity offers a journey that reveals the different stages of its evolution over the centuries. Visitors can explore, at their own pace, the secrets and history of this emblematic location.

The visit begins with the ruins of the ancient abbey, where the Cistercian architecture still reflects the monastic spirit that prevails in these places. As you proceed, you will discover the Hospitality House, an immersive space where 3D projections and interactive models transport you into the architectural evolution of the abbey.

In the Caves Dewez, 18th-century cellars, explore a precious collection of archaeological, liturgical, and artistic objects. From medieval metallurgy to sacred "art deco" works, each gallery tells the story of Orval through the centuries, with unique pieces and contemporary creations inspired by the spirituality of the place.

The Communs Abraham, a 17th-century building, houses an exhibition on the brewing heritage of Orval, revealing step by step the secrets of the production of its famous beer.

Next, discover the old pharmacy and its medicinal plant garden. A simple garden has been recreated on the courtyard, in memory of Brother Pharmacist Antoine Perrin (1738-1788). In the Middle Ages, the monk-gardener selected plants for their utility: medicinal, food, condiment, or aromatic. The monastic garden was organized into geometric "beds," with each bed grouping plants according to their medicinal use, such as urinary, digestive, or circulatory.

At the abbey shop, you can purchase Orval cheese and beer produced at the monastery. You will also find a selection of monastic products, religious items, icons painted by Brother Charbel of Orval, beautiful cards, and various souvenirs from the Abbey. Our bookstore offers a wide range of books on spirituality, Bibles, catechism, literature and art, or on the history of Orval.

And finally, enhance your visit with an educational walk in the Orval Natural Reserve.

Just 200 meters from the abbey, L'Ange Gardien invites you to taste the emblematic products of Orval in a convivial and authentic atmosphere.
